Bioinformatics Research Scientist (RES00791)
Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is a leading developer and supplier of advanced plant genetics to farmers worldwide.
The Trait Discovery Informatics team is seeking a bioinformatician who can build and manage a team located at the DuPont Knowledge Center (DKC) facility in Hyderabad, India. This position will require several months of initial training at the Johnston IA campus prior to being permanently located at DKC.
The DKC based team will lead in efforts to generate and integrate complex genetic and genomics annotations, and manage key software and computing resources, to support trait discovery research.
The optimal candidate has a sound understanding of bioinformatics, eukaryotic genetics and genomics, and is familiar with biochemical networks and pathways, plant physiology, and agriculture.
As a bioinformatician desirable skills include Unix, Oracle, SQL, and programming skills in at least three of the following: C++,Python, Perl, CGI, C# and .Net framework.
The candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment of scientists and technicians across the global DuPont-Pioneer research organization.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are needed to manage both these collaborations and reporting personnel.
Requirements include either a Ph.D. degree or a Master degree plus 3-5 years experience in bioinformatics, computer science, genetics, genomics, or related field.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will build and lead a team of plant bioinformatics technicians at the TDI-DKC unit.
The primary duties of this TDI-DKC sub-team would be to generate annotations and load them into existing or future databases and software systems for use by the DuPont-Pioneer researchers.
This annotation information could relate to any relevant aspect of genes, genome, and genetics and their relationship to pertinent information around leads, collaborations, patent, traits, biochemistry, pathways, networks, phenotypes and agricultural performance.
The team would
respond to requests from DuPont-Pioneer scientists, perform proper management and entry of annotations into these systems, whether they originate from public or private sources.
Overtime the team would be empowered to proactively seek annotation and data gathering opportunities of interest to DuPont-Pioneer researchers.
In addition, some of the team would also be involved with managing key bioinformatics resources, both applications and analysis pipelines, as by running and
maintaining them and contributing to their improvement.
