Job Description
JOB SCOPE/ SUMMARY:
• Test and analyze every batch of product for conformance to quality
standards, make adjustments as required
• Perform quality checks of bulk liquid raw materials
• Maintain accurate records and information on product and raw materials test results and analyses
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct standard tests including, but not limited to, Viscosity, Gloss, Solids, Color, Density, pH, Gel tests, and product applications.
2. Record pertinent data on raw materials and finished products, including product codes and test results and review plant audit results in an effort to identify improvement opportunities.
3. Clean and maintain testing equipment, report problems associated with test equipment and processes and alert supervisors regarding low levels of lab supplies.
4. Make routine and accurate corrections to batches that test outside of specifications.
5. Prepare samples for shipment to other Company laboratories.
6. Rate panels according to visual standards for appearance.
7. Model work practices for tests conducted by Quality Technician I personnel.
8. Audit data that has been entered into quality control or other departmental testing databases for accuracy.
9. Locate and organize historical database information for use by other personnel as requested.
10. Monitor critical process quality metrics and trends in product and process quality.
11. Assist in quality investigations of field complaint issues.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Educational attainment equivalent to high school graduation
Thorough quality control and production testing experience involving paints and coatings
Must demonstrate proficiency in all Quality Technician II job requirements as evidenced by past experience
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES RECOMMENDED FOR POSITION:
Thorough knowledge and familiarity with raw materials and their uses in products
Thorough knowledge and familiarity with products and test procedures
Knowledge of statistical and analytical problem solving capabilities
Knowledge of quality auditing techniques
Knowledge of how quality testing demands are influenced by other departments’ processes, including Manufacturing, Research & Development
, Purchasing, and Marketing
Knowledge and literacy of mathematics
Ability to read, interpret, and follow work rules and specifications
Ability to consistently set up and operate quality control and testing equipment
Ability to use effective judgment in testing operations to prioritize incoming samples to best satisfy testing demands
Ability to organize, file, and maintain quality control inspection and testing records
Ability to recognize patterns that can affect quality
Ability to operate a computer terminal to enter, retrieve, review, or update data
